If We Were Having Coffee – All is Full of Love Edition*

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you about my road trip to see Bear 2 weekends ago. The traffic cooperated except for a little stretch crossing the Connecticut border into Rhode Island, which meant our options were limited for dinner when I arrived.

But we managed to have amazing food delivered anyway, after slight indecision. Cloves were involved before the mofongo & grilled yummy-ness arrived, and the TV never went on  because after a full meal, “OMG I HAVE SO MUCH TELL YOU”, and a 3.5 hour ride, sleep was far preferable to Hulu.

My playlist was on point, though, and I only needed the GPS for a brief part of the ride off the highway. Relearning the city FTW!

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you about how people with 20+ years of history give the best hugs, especially when it’s been 4 months between visits, but that newer friends also give amazing hugs, because I’ve known my Sharky for way less than 20 years, and I really look forward to Sharky hugs, so maybe it’s not a time thing. Maybe it’s just a “person I love” thing.

The laughter helps too – Bears vs Babies is always good even when I forget the rules, and I love seeing how twisted everyone is during Cards Against Humanity even when I have a shitty hand and am too tipsy on empty stomach Cider to actually take advantage of the House Rule that would have let me dump & redraw.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you how Bear didn’t tease me too badly when I moved past tipsy to accidentally unexpectedly drunk. He didn’t laugh when I pressed my hands against the passenger window and marveled at how I had forgotten how narrow Thayer Street was even though I spent about half my college career hanging out on it.

Or when I was still unexpectedly drunk and eating tacos back at the house and wound up with a glob of sour cream on my t-shirt. Whoops.

Or the next morning when I had the vaguest edges of hangover tummy and it took me a little longer to finish my diner omelette than it took Bear to finish his Benedict. He treated for the good coffee afterward, at the place around the corner with the adorable coffee girl & hot owner around the corner, and a little creme brulee that we took back to the house. We were surprised the container was glass, and he offered to use his kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar, but I didn’t care, so we shared it un-torched and watched a few more episodes of Steven Universe before I left.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you about how the Bronxie and I talked on the phone for the first time for 20 Connecticut exits on my ride home, and it felt like talking to someone I knew a lifetime ago. We laughed about being 2 degrees of separation apart for 15 years and I apologized if we ever really had met and I had been rude and I didn’t remember. Or if I hit on him. Fifteen years ago I could have gone either way on that.

That conversation led to plans made then cancelled due to illness and weather, then changing and multiplying, til we were laughing in a Dunkin Donuts on our 4th date in 4 days after he accompanied me to storage to search for an outfit to go dancing in.

Let’s be honest here. Even though he read the depression post, I was scared to death he would run screaming, but there we were. He kept me laughing and kept me comfortable when I was ready to die of embarrassment at having someone else witness the disaster I’m working my out of. Bronxie saw the raw messy reality of Depressed!Danni, and he still held my hand on our way back to the car and thanked me for bringing him along for the ride.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you about how I’m actually going out and seeing people. REAL people, not just people on a computer screen.

I’d tell you about going to a Women in Horror reading at a bar with the Elf and how I got hopelessly lost in a neighborhood I thought I knew. I re-met people I knew ages ago, people that still liked me, and nobody noticed I wasn’t a Real Author (TM) yet like they were.

Or about how I went to a literary/comedy event with my no-bullshit Wooie girl, and she gave me an impromptu reading in a dive bar over cider and Stella while she flipped through some of my tarot decks.

Or about my knitting at the doggo-friendly bar day with an awesome online friend who is finally an amazing real-life friend. I’m super excited for our next Drink-and-Knit day, and hope it happens soon.

If we were having coffee I’d tell you that in the last 4 weeks my heart has been lighter and more full than it has been in a year. I’ve got amazing beautiful energy to wrap around myself and snuggle deep into. I am head over heels in love with everyone and everything in my life right now.

If we were having coffee, I’d tell you my heart and my life are so full of love, and that I am such a lucky lucky girl.

*I love all Lorna posts, but her “If We Were Having Coffee” posts are my favorite. ❤

  1. If we were having coffee talking about hockey and hard checks would probably come up. Deep belly laughs as we talk about our woo sisters and the discussions we have.
